The renewable energy sector employed at least 11 million people, directly and indirectly, in 2018.1 The total includes, for the first time, a fuller estimate of off-grid solar in parts of the developing world. Renewable energy employment has continued to grow worldwide since the first annual assessment by the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA) in 2012. The solar photovoltaics (PV), bioenergy, hydro, and wind power industries were the biggest employers.
